Utilizing biodegradable alloys as guided bone regeneration (GBR) membrane: Feasibility and challenges
نویسندگان
چکیده
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a therapeutic procedure used to enhance alveolar volume before dental implants. Commercial non-absorbable membranes (i.e., titanium membranes) typically require second surgery remove, whereas absorbable collagen will fail when put over extensive lesions due their low mechanical strength. The GBR membrane that has been sought still being developed. Biodegradable metals (BMs), particularly Mg and Zn, have recently postulated as promising barrier candidates. Herein, the goal of this research evaluate biological feasibility using BMs membranes. It shows wide range potential applications membranes, owing benign biocompatibility, sufficient support, tunable degradation rate, good osteogenic capabilities, broad-spectrum antibacterial behavior, improved wound healing ability. rapid hydrogen evolution impact, stress corrosion cracking behavior all pose obstacles use Mg-based which can be by surface modifications, heat treatment, alloying, etc. Due its acceptable rate lack gas production, Zn appears better candidate for usage membrane. In general, advances in development paved door oral clinical trials.

Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) Utilizing Injectable Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Delivery Gel
Methods: Critical-sized defects were created in rat calvariae and GBR procedures were performed with a collagen membrane either alone (control), plus bolus delivery of VEGF, or plus application of VEGF releasing hydrogels (VEGF Alg). Four and eight weeks following treatment, defect sites were evaluated with microcomputed tomographic and histomorphometric analyses for blood vessel and bone forma...
متن کاملEggshell membrane as a biodegradable bone regeneration inhibitor.
The efficiency of chicken eggshell membranes combined with a minimally invasive small osteotomy procedure of the ulna to accomplish an efficient release of the radius so that it can continue to grow in an unstressed manner was tested in rabbits. Eggshell membranes were extracted from chicken eggs, rinsed, dried and sterilized with ethylene oxide for 24 h. For reactivity testing, four separate s...

Membranes for guided bone regeneration (GBR) were prepared from the synthetic biodegradable polymer poly-D,L-lactic/glycolic acid (PLGA). This GBR membrane has a bi-layered structure with a dense film to prevent gingival fibroblast ingrowth and ensure mechanical function, and a micro-fibrous layer to support colonization by osteogenic cells and promote bone regeneration. Hydrolysis and biodegra...
متن کاملGuided bone regeneration (GBR) on healing bone defects: a histological study in rabbits.
In this study, the effects of guided bone regeneration (GBR) on the healing of bone defects were evaluated. Resorbable membranes were placed in experimentally formed cavities in the right posterior tibia of 30 rabbits. Decalcified histological sections were evaluated using optical microscopy at 10, 20, and 30 days after GBR. Osteocondrial bone union, active bone formation and spongiosal bone fo...
متن کاملNovel membrane for guided bone regeneration.
Membranes have been clinically used for guided tissue and bone regeneration for decades, but their use in every day clinical practice is rather limited. We developed a biodegradable membrane (InionGTR) composed of polylactide, polyglycolide and trimethylene carbonate aiming to improve the properties of membrane. Before application the membrane is treated with N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) to achie...
